Bio
Matthew Kay grew up in Easley, SC, listening to everything from Michael Jackson and John Scofield to country and Motown. After spending years developing his writing and theater abilities, he fell in love with guitar.
He began studying in earnest, sometimes practicing up to 20 hours a day. He began teaching in 2009, meeting and playing with Second Hand Jazz, The Blue Note Trio, The Shaun Richie Project, and the Carolina Classical Guitar Orchestra.
After seeing the Dalai Lama speak in 2010, he became eager to fulfill his dream of self actualization through music. Matthew began work on a Bachelor's Degree in Commercial Music with a minor in Jazz Studies, first studying at Greenville Tech before enrolling in USC Upstate. He is a guitar instructor at Palmetto Fine Arts Academy.
