Bio

The Carousers are the Upstate’s newest jazz group, offering Gypsy Jazz, Western Swing, and Boogie Blues. This lively trio
features vocalist Donna Kay with guitarist Monty Craig and violinist Hans Wolff.  Donna Kay joined the jazz scene after moving to Greenville in 2008. She began her classical piano, voice, and music theory studies at age eight, and loves to criss-cross genres. She performs in Spartanburg’s electronic/experimental duo Vibe Vox and sings with the Greenville pop trio Cheer Down. Donna recently returned from an artist-in-residence program in Berlin, Germany, where she lived and played music for a month with Germans and ex-pat Americans alike.  The Carousers' guitarist and lead arranger is Monty Craig. Monty fronts several working bands such as The Professors of Soul (recently seen at Fall for Greenville), The Electric Sun Trio, and salsa band Alma de Candela, who were featured at this year’s International Festival in Spartanburg, SC. Monlso teaches several students privately and is an adjunct professor of jazz guitar and jazz composition at Clemson University. German native Hans Wolff is a classically trained violinist who has been seen playing on the streets of downtown Greenville for 10 years. A true entertainer, he loves taking song requests and interacting with the crowd. Hans is a veteran busker going all the way back
to his student years in Germany. Hans was also featured at Spartanburg’s International Festival, playing traditional German music in the Bier Garden.
